Es la primera etapa de siete, que recorrerán la RIBERA SACRA Ourensana y que nos llevarán a pasar por siete monasterios y dos castillos e innumerables iglesias y capillas, siendo una de las zonas con más concentración de románico de Europa. La ruta se sitúa en Galicia, al norte de la provincia de Ourense y en el margen izquierdo del río Sil, recorriendo gran parte del CAÑÓN DEL SIL, también pasa por la extinguida LAGUNA DE ANTELA en tierras de Maceda, donde siguiendo el trazado de la calzada romana que unía Braga y Astorga (la llamada VIA NOVA o de Antonino) pasando por tierras de Montederramo con su monasterio SANTA MARÍA DE MONTEDERRAMO.
En el documento fundacional del monasterio aparece por primera vez el nombre de RIBEIRA SACRA (1124)
La ruta está señalizada con unos puntos verdes y siluetas del MONXE ,en muchos tramos comparte la señalización con algunas rutas de senderismo. El horario de la ruta es orientativo, está realizado a un ritmo normal y hay que contar con el tiempo que se puede emplear en fotos y visitas.
Está primera etapa comienza en CASTRO CALDELAS con su Castillo que es tiempos fue el más importante de la RIBEIRA SACRA y hoy uno de los monumentos más visitados de Ourense.
Comenzamos en la plaza del pueblo donde encontramos carteles con información de varias rutas de senderismo. Empezamos siguiendo el PR-G 213 de LOS BOSQUES MÁGICOS el sendero deja el pueblo de CASTRO CALDELAS y se adentra en un bosque de castaños dejando atrás CASTRO CALDELAS. En 30 minutos estaremos en la zona de VALVERDE donde haremos un pequeño tramo de carretera para luego seguir por un camino de tierra bien señalizado, desde aquí se tiene una vista espectacular del valle de la ABELEDA y podremos ver parte de la ruta que haremos, a los 30 metros recorridos del camino nos encontramos con un cartel que indica la CAPILLA DE SAN AMARO, después de visitarla volvemos sobre nuestros pasos al cartel que indica la capilla y seguimos camino siempre en bajada, pasamos unas casas en ruinas RESAIO y después de pasar por un camino estrecho salimos a una pista ancha.
ATENCIÓN, dejamos las marcas del PR y tomamos dirección a la derecha (siempre atentos a los puntos verdes), nos volveremos a encontrar con la señalización del mismo PR más adelante, llegando al primer pueblo de esta ruta O COUTO.
KM. 4.300. O COUTO. Empezamos a pasar por los primeros viñedos, aquí se puede visitar la bodega de PONTE DA BOGA, esto implicará más tiempo en el recorrido, pasamos SOUTELO y seguimos por un sendero estrecho hasta encontrar otro poste indicativo, O MUIÑO DO CANEIRO, por el momento seguimos el PR hasta el MONASTERIO DE SAN PAIO, que solo podemos visitar por fuera ya que está en ruinas, sólo queda la iglesia en pie, después de la visita volvemos a O MUIÑO DO CANEIRO para seguir camino hacia el pueblo de ABELEDA
KM. 7.000. A ABALEDA. En el pueblo disponemos de dos bares por si hay que retomar fuerzas, la ruta continua por la parte izquierda del pueblo, adentramos en una zona de viñedo en bancales o terrazas, pertenecientes a ADEGA CACHIN, pasando por el viñedo podemos divisar al otro lado del río el campanario del monasterio, dejando atrás el viñedo nos encontramos con la bodega ADEGA CACHIN ya en la carretera de CASTRO CALDELAS a MONFORTE DE LEMOS, la bodega se puede visitar previa cita, (otra opción es cruzar por el pueblo siguiendo la carretera, pudiendo de esta forma acercarnos a la iglesia co una interesante portada románica , al lado está otra de las bodegas del pueblo ADEGA VELLA que también se puede visitar, luego se puede salir de nuevo a la carretera enlazando con la ADEGA CACHIN), aquí enlazamos con el PR-G. 224 SENDERO DE A TEIXEIRA, continuamos por la carretera en dirección a MONFORTE, fijandonos bien en la señalización (puntos verdes), nos desviamos a la izquierda, seguiremos el sendero hasta O MUIÑO DO SARDIÑEIRO, dónde volvemos a cruzar el río EDO por un puente, ( mucha atención al pasar el molino, después de una pequeña subida en ciz zac nos desviarnos a la derecha ), ahora una fuerte subida nos lleva al mirador de A PENA DO CORVO, en este tramo espectacular empezamos a ver el río SIL y los viñedos de la orilla de LUGO de la zona de AMANDI, también se puede ver el PUENTE DEL SIL y el embarcadero de las rutas en barco por el embalse de SAN ESTEVO, seguimos ruta y pasamos por una zona donde podemos ver un pozo y un lavadero que pertenecían al desaparecido pueblo de SANTA MARTA DE FONTAO, expropiado a finales de los años cincuenta del pasado siglo por la construcción de la presa de SAN ESTEVO,, pasamos por el pueblo de A PORTELA en dirección a la TEIXEIRA.
KM. 13.000. pasamos por las ruinas de una torre defensiva que se remonta a los tiempos de los romanos, podría tener alguna vinculación con la VIA NOVA. Poodemos aprovechar para comer en el pueblo, disponemos de tres bares, Casa Celso bar-tienda, A Taberna do Pupila comida casera y bocadillos y O Museo do Vino. Luego de recuperar fuerzas seguimos dirección a CRISTOSENDE, pasando por la Casa Grande de Cristosende (casa rural)
KM. 16.000. CRISTOSENDE. En este tramo volvemos a tener unas muy buenas vistas al río SIL, al CAÑÓN DEL RÍO MAO y al pueblo de BARXACOVA en la desembocadura del río MAO a donde nos dirigimos, de frente a media falda se ve el pueblo de SAN LORENZO donde hay unas tumbas antropomórficas ( PR-G177) y a lo lejos el pueblo de PARADA DE SIL, objetivos de la siguiente etapa. Desde CRISTOSENDE empezamos una fuerte bajada entre viñedos, encontraremos un cartel informativo que nos indica la dirección hacia la PASARELA DEL RÍO MAO.
KM.19.000. PASARELA S DEL RÍO MAO,. Recorriendo el tramo de las pasarelas llegamos a la FÁBRICA DA LUZ.
KM. 20.000. A FABRICA DA LUZ, antigua central eléctrica hoy convertida en albergue que dispone de bar y restaurante, sitio ideal para pernoctar si vamos a seguir la siguiente etapa.
BUEN CAMINO .
It is the first stage of seven, which will cross the RIBERA SACRA Orensana and will take us through seven monasteries, two castles and countless churches and chapels, being one of the areas with the highest concentration of Romanesque architecture in Europe. The route is in Galicia, to the north of the province of Ourense and on the left bank of the river Sil, crossing a large part of the SIL CANYON, also passing through the extinct LAGOON OF ANTELA in Maceda, following the route of the Roman road that linked Braga and Astorga (the so-called VIA NOVA or Antonine) passing through Montederramo with its monastery SANTA MARIA DE MONTEDERRAMO,.The name RIBEIRA SACRA appears for the first time (1124), in the founding charter of the monastery
The route is marked with green dots and silhouettes of the MONXE(monk), many areas share indications with some of the hiking routes. The timetable of the route is indicative, it is done at a normal pace, you need to take into account the time spent taking photos and the visits.
This first stage begins in CASTRO CALDELAS with its castle, which was once the most important in RIBERA SACRA and today is one of the most visited monuments in Ourense.
We begin in the village square where there are signs with information on various hiking routes. We start by following the PR-G 213 of LOS BOSQUES MÁGICOS, the path enters a chestnut forest leaving CASTRO CALDELAS behind us. After 30 minutes we will reach VALVERDE where we will walk a short stretch of road and then continue along a well-marked dirt road, from here we have a spectacular view of the valley of ABELEDA and we can see part of the route we will do, 30 metres along the road we come across a sign indicating the CHAPEL OF SAN AMARO, after visiting it we retrace our steps to the sign indicating the chapel and we continue downhill, we pass some houses in ruins RESAIO and after passing through a narrow road we come out onto a wide track. CAREFUL, we leave the marks of the PR and turn right (always watch out for the green dots), we will come across the signs of the same PR further on, arriving at the first village of this route O COUTO.KM. 4.300. O COUTO.
We start to pass through the first vineyards, here we can visit the PONTE DA BOGA winery, this will mean more time on the route, we pass SOUTELO and follow a narrow path until we find another signpost, O MUIÑO DO CANEIRO, for the moment we follow the PR to the MONASTERIO DE SAN PAIO, which we can only visit from the outside as it is in ruins, only the church remains standing, after the visit we return to O MUIÑO DO CANEIRO to continue on our way to the village of ABELEDA.
KM. 7.000. A ABALEDA. There are two bars in the village, in case we need to regain strength, the route continues via the left side of the village, we enter an area of terraced vineyards, belonging to ADEGA CACHIN, passing through the vineyard we can make out the bell tower of the monastery on the other side of the river. Leaving the vineyard behind we come to the ADEGA CACHIN a winery on the road from CASTRO CALDELAS to MONFORTE DE LEMOS, the winery can be visited, prior appointment, (another option is to cross through the village following the road, leading to the church with an interesting Romanesque doorway, next to it is another of the village wineries ADEGA VELLA that can also be visited, then you can go back to the road leading to (ADEGA CACHIN), here we link with PR-G. 224 SENDERO DE A TEIXEIRA, We continue along the road towards MONFORTE, paying attention to the signs (green dots), we turn left, and follow the path to O MUIÑO DO SARDIÑEIRO, where we cross the river EDO again over a bridge, (pay attention when passing the mill, after a small zigzag uphill head right), now a steep climb takes us to the viewpoint of A PENA DO CORVO. Along this spectacular stretch, we start to see the SIL river and the vineyards on the banks of LUGO in the AMANDI area, we can also see the SIL BRIDGE and the wharf for the boat trips on the SAN ESTEVO reservoir. We continue our route and pass through an area where we can see a Well and a washing place that belonged to the village of SANTA MARTA DE FONTAO, expropriated at the end of the fifties (last century) for the construction of the SAN ESTEVO dam. We pass through the village of A PORTELA in heading towards TEIXEIRA.
KM. 13.000. We pass by the ruins of a defense tower that dates back to Roman times; it could have some connection with the VIA NOVA. We can stop for lunch in the village, there are three bars, Casa Celso bar-shop, A Taberna do Pupila home-made food and sandwiches, and O Museo do Vino. After recovering our strength, we continue towards CRISTOSENDE, passing by the Casa Grande de Cristosende (rural house).
KM. 16.000. CRISTOSENDE. In this section we once again have spectacular views of the SIL river, the MAO RIVER CANYON, and the village of BARXACOVA at the mouth of the MAO river where we are heading, in front of us halfway down the slope we can see the village of SAN LORENZO where there are some anthropomorphic tombs (PR-G177) and in the distance the village of PARADA DE SIL, the objective of the next stage. From CRISTOSENDE we start a steep descent through vineyards, where we will find a signpost indicating the direction to the PASARELA DEL RÍO MAO.
KM.19.000. PASARELA S DEL RÍO MAO, walking along the stretch of the footbridges we arrive at the FÁBRICA DA LUZ.
KM. 20.000. A FABRICA DA LUZ, an old power station that has been converted into a hostel with a bar and restaurant, an ideal place to spend the night if we are going to continue on to the next stage.
